Caution
Somnolence, weight gain, and rare agranulocytosis (report fever or sore throat).

Common side effects

  • Sedation
  • Increased appetite and weight gain
  • Dry mouth
  • Dizziness

Key interactions

  • Additive sedation with alcohol and CNS depressants
  • Serotonin syndrome risk with other serotonergic drugs
  • Contraindicated with MAO inhibitors

  • Usually taken at bedtime because it is sedating
  • Appetite increase is expected and can be useful
  • Do not stop abruptly
