- Caution
- Ineffective when liver glycogen is depleted (prolonged fasting, adrenal insufficiency, chronic hypoglycemia); give carbohydrate once the patient can swallow.
- Storage
- Room temperature; the reconstituted kit is used immediately and any unused portion discarded (Gvoke and Baqsimi are ready to use).

- Nausea and vomiting
- Headache
- Rebound high blood sugar
- Injection-site reaction

- Beta blockers may blunt the heart-rate response
- Raises the effect of warfarin

- Use when the person cannot safely swallow food or drink
- Turn them on their side: vomiting is common
- Give fast-acting carbohydrate once they can swallow
- Call 911; a nasal powder form needs no injection
