Profound sedation, respiratory depression, coma, and death when combined with opioids; abuse, misuse, addiction, and withdrawal reactions on abrupt stopping.

Caution
Long-acting metabolites accumulate in older adults and liver disease.
Pregnancy
Avoid if possible: neonatal sedation and withdrawal, especially with late-pregnancy use.
